Lens review of the Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS Telephoto Lens

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR CamerasThis is the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras. So what does that all mean and why this lens. Well first there is the name, Canon. A trusted name in cameras that has been around for ever, so basically in my opinion at least you can't go wrong. Then comes EF-S. As with most cameras these days there are propriety systems for attaching the lens to the camera. This lens will only fit onto Canon SLR cameras that have the EF-S mounting system and will not fit on a pre 2003 EF only camera. Then comes the focal lengths from 55mm all the way through to 250mm, making this a very versatile lens. Now depending on the focal length you have chosen your maximum aperture will be from f4 to f5.6. Then comes IS which means that this camera is fitted with optical image stabilization technology.

Features

This lens allows a broad focal range that is between 55mm and 250mm. Buying this lens will eliminate the need for two separate lenses to get the equivalent focal range. It will save time changing between lenses to get the perfect shot with a flick of the wrist. Also if you were worried the manufacturer says it also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.

The lens is fitted with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology to allow sharper handheld pictures to be taken even at slower shutter speeds. Even at shutter speeds as slow as one fifteenth of a second your handheld pictures will still be sharp. In fact the technology involved in this lens will allow you to shoot four settings slower than you would normally be able to when hand held. This will allow for richer colors which area always good. This lens was developed by photographers, for photographers as the market was demanding it. Read more...

With lenses such as this from other manufactures you can expect to be carrying around a much heavier lens. Canon has realized this and developed this lens to be much lighter allowing it to become more portable and easier to use. At just 13.8 ounces or 400 grams it will not be a burden to carry this lens around. Also as the lens is essentially two lenses in one you will not have to carry around 2 different lenses to get the different focal ranges.

So how much is it? I want one
You can find it HERE for just $246.50. Else where you can expect to pay up to $400.
